Photo of the Kreischer Brick Works in Kreischerville (now known as Charleston), taken after 1874.

The factory closed in 1927 and was subsequently demolished, with nature reclaiming the space over the decades. Large artifacts from the factory buildings remained untouched for years. We had the occasion to visit the ruins of the factory and the surrounding area shortly before the area was cleared in preparation of the construction of “The Tides” development and found some amazing, fully intact bricks – pulled from the source of their 19th-century birth…

This picture offers a wonderful glimpse into the operations of a company that supported and fueled an entire town for over 50 years. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
